Overview

A smaller paper discussing a project that came out of the work published in Mediating intimacy. The most useful thing about this paper is the introduction of the term phatic technology. The authors note that phatic exchanges do not express any particular thought, nor aim to exchange facts about the world. They do however strengthen social bonds and establish and maintain the possibility of communication. They conclude by nothing that they are developing a set of principles and heuristics for the design of phatic devices.

Reflection

I think this phatic concept is key for me and something I need to read more about.
