Weekend Breakfast (Presence through Place)

Key scenario points:

  • Associating a message with a place that already has personal meaning creates a stronger sense of presence.
  • Knowledge of common behavior patterns can allow for precise timing of message arrival.
  • Timing is particularly useful when dealing with changes in time zones.

This scenario includes:

  • Web
    • Send
      • Content: text
      • Location-based (w/ time delay)
  • Mobile

Shot Sequence: Close-up, Mia turning to use computer.

After their phone call, Mia goes to her computer and logs on to Hello There.

Shot Sequence: Computer zoom, Hello There website

She wants to leave a message for Oliver and her friends tomorrow morning at the restaurant. First, she chooses Oliver as the recipient and writes a text message.
"Hi Oliver. I really wish I was there with you this morning eating eggs benedict. Say hello to Jay and Rosie for me -- tell them to come visit!".
Then, she chooses the location to leave this message at. Since this is one of their favorite places she has it saved with Oliver's profile, but she could also search for it or draw an area on the map.
Finally, she sets the message to arrive after Oliver has been in the restaurant for 15 minutes. With this delay, she pictures them drinking coffee and waiting for their food when her message arrives.

Scene: Receiving the message

Establishing Shot: Wide, outside the restaurant

Shot Sequence: Medium, Oliver and friends sitting in a booth at the restaurant, HT message sound

Tomorrow morning, as Mia expected, Oliver is sitting at a table in the restaurant when he receives her Hello There message.

See above for text of message

Shot Sequence: Close-up, Oliver holding phone, talking to friends, taking their photo

He reads the message to Rosie and Jay, and takes a photo of them with his phone.

Shot Sequence: Mobile zoom, Hello There message reply (can include photo taking step w/ slight cognitive leap back in time)

He sends the image to Mia with Hello There. Because of the time difference she's probably still sleeping, so he delays its arrival for a couple of hours.

From here she can filter messages based on content, location, or time, making it easy to revisit her communication between her and Oliver.

Shot Sequence: Computer zoom, Unreceived message

For the last week Hello There has shown that there is an unreceived message from Oliver. This could mean that it's associated with a particular location, or a time that hasn't passed yet. Mia has asked him what it is, but of course he won't tell her. He has given her a hint though, saying it has something to do with when he moves to Seattle.

Scene: Receiving the message

She replies with a Hello There photo message of a puppy: "I knew you'd change your mind, how can you resist this!"

Three more days (When Timing Matters)

Key scenario points:

  • Time-based messages give a reason for sending/receiving and can relate to other contextual events.
  • Audio messages have a more emotional impact than text.

Using his cell phone, he takes a photo of himself and records an audio message.

Shot Sequence: Close-up from side, Oliver looking down at phone.

He sets the message to arrive at 6:30pm that night, the exact time that his plane will touch down three days later.

Shot Sequence: Medium, Mia is walking down the street when her phone sounds the HT alert.
